The Alkimos Vista Seedling Fund Community Grants Program is a management account of Community Enterprise™ Charitable Fund. ABN 12 102 649 968. The Bendigo Centre, Bendigo, VIC, 3550.

Did you know that 10 cents from every dollar you spend at Sprout Hub Alkimos Vista goes into the Seedling Fund? The Seedling Fund is a community-led grant initiative that aims to promote and enable local groups to do great things in the community. In a process similar to crowd funding, the community votes for which projects get the majority of the $’s. We call it a ground up grant – money raised by the community, for the community.

Alkimos Sprout Coder Dojo - Greater access to free coding education for kids

CoderDojo is a free volunteer-run computer programming educational group open to all young people. Based at Sprout Hub Alkimos Beach, the club assists young people in learning how to write computer code and provides assistance with developing their digital literacy and inclusion. Anyone aged seven to seventeen can visit CoderDojo where they can learn to code, build a website, create an app or a game, build a robot, and explore technology in an informal, creative, and social environment. The CoderDojo group will use the Seedling Fund to purchase additional electronic equipment and technology for use at the CoderDojo sessions, enhancing the learning and experience for children who may not ordinarily have access to this equipment.

Boomerang bags 1000

Alkimos Boomerang Bags Group - Community sewing workshops to support sustainability

Alkimos Boomerang Bags is a volunteer group that gets together to make re-usable bags using recycled materials, to provide a sustainable alternative to plastic bags. The bags are given away to friends, family, colleagues as well as free at the Sprout Hub Alkimos Beach and Alkimos Pop-Up Library. As well as encouraging sustainable behaviours, the bags create a platform to start conversations and make friends in a fun and happy environment. The group has also held community workshops to teach people to make their own beeswax wraps and produce bags. The Seedling Fund grant will be used to purchase an over locker, sewing machines and equipment and materials, allowing the group to create more bags and continue to enjoy weekly sewing bees at Sprout Hub Alkimos Beach. All people are welcome to attend and get involved in any way they can.
